Men's Track
Arguably one of team’s most improved athletes thanks to steady stretch run in 2002 that positioned him among the top U.S. collegiate hammer throwers. Went into 2002 with a personal best of 194-8, and bettered that mark in five of last six meets, all of which were past the 200-foot line. Ranked 30th overall in U.S. last year, and ninth among U.S. collegians. In 2003, stands fifth among collegiate returnees and first in the Pac-10 based on 2002 season bests. 2001-02: Pac-10 Champion (Hammer). Made first NCAA appearance (14th, 200-7) after entering meet seeded 12th, with slight foot foul on second preliminary attempt than would have likely been a new personal best and qualifier for final. Still could take pride in his Pac-10 win (210-7), only an inch shy of a three-foot personal best. Claimed two wins during season - in Montana-Weber State Triangular (186-1) and Washington Dual (207-8) – and added +200-foot efforts in Oregon Twilight (third, 205-9) and Oregon Invitational (fifth, 204-11). Also led collegiate finishers in his Oregon Twilight, Oregon Invite and Jesse Owens Classic (sixth 194-1). Helped team’s scoring cause in two scored meets with points in the shot put (third, 48-11 3/4) and discus (third, 144-1) against Washington; and in shot put (second, 48-2 3/4) against Montana-Weber State Triangular, and also competed in discus (fifth, 142-11). Indoors, posted team’s top four marks of season in weight throw, three past the 60-foot mark. Ended season with personal best (sixth, 61-7 1/2) in Mountain Pacific Championships. Also competed in Frank Sevigne Invite (third, 60-5), UW Quad Classic (third, 60-2 1/2) and Husky Scoring Meet (first, 57-6 1/4). 2000-01: Pac-10 Scorer. Added valuable points to team cause in hammer throw in Pac-10 Championships (fourth, 194-8) after entering meet seeded fifth. Turned in an impressive final-three meet stretch where he progressively improved his personal best - 194-3 in Texas Invite (third), 194-4 in Oregon Twilight (second) and 194-8 at Pac-10's. Finished past 180 foot line in first four stops of season, including Washington Dual win (183-1) and Texas Relays effort (eighth, 192-1). Indoors, hiked weight throw best by more than three feet during season to current best of 60-4 from the Holiday Inn Invite. Three of his other four meets were better than his preseason best of 57-0 3/4 and led squad. 1999-2000: Pac-10 Scorer. Improved hammer personal best by more than 10 feet in less than a month, including a personal best in Washington Dual (191-3, 58.30m) and his first collegiate win. Altogether, was above 180-foot mark in six of seven meets and once above the 190-foot mark. Indoors, owned indoor best in weight throw of 57-0 3/4 from Silver State Invite. 1998-99: Redshirted collegiate season, but still competed in U.S. Junior Championships (sixth, 162-9). Competed unattached locally in Oregon Preview (hammer, eighth, 148-8; shot put, seventh, 45-10), Oregon Invitational (13th, 158-3) and Oregon Twilight (ninth, 165-2). Prep: As a senior in 1998, placed in 3A state shot put (second, 52-3 3/4) and discus (third, 156-11). Claimed 3A state discus title as a junior. Owned prep bests of 52-10 in the shot put and 159-2 in the discus. Played in East West Shrine Football Game. Lettered three years in wrestling (215 lb. class) and football (lineman).
