Wrapped up harrier career in 2002 with first All-America plaque - Oregon’s 31st under 28th-year head coach Tom Heinonen. Could emerge as conference’s most versatile distance runner, capable of Pac-10 qualifying marks from 800 up to the 5K. Based on 2002 season bests, ranks top-10 among Pac-10 returnees in the 800 (13th, 2:11.85), 1,500 (ninth, 4:26.98), and steeplechase (third, 10:42.02), with room for improvement in each. The cross country team MVP and emotional leader the past two seasons has led the Ducks in nine of her last 10 harrier races, after running in the team’s sixth and seventh spots her first season as a sophomore. Is still building up speed and foundation as a distance runner after a prep career focused on sprints and hurdles. Spent first two seasons at the University of Colorado hurdler/middle distance runner, and began her distance training in the summer of 1999. Fall 2002: All-American (XC). In her final cross country race, penned a fairytale ending as the former walk-on improved 187 places in her NCAA return (33rd, 20:32) and earned All-America honors. Smoothly handled pressures of an individual alone against a 255-runner field, and opened race patiently with a placing near 65th near the halfway point. After midway point of NCAA finale, navigated up through field in the hilly fourth and fifth kilometers to a position near her eventual placing, then held on to her placing in the final kilometer to the finish. In the NCAA finale was one of only seven All-Americans to run negative splits on the twice-run 3K loop course (10:18 first half, 10:14 second half), and the only honoree outside of the top 12 overall. Her NCAA placing ranked her fifth among West Regional qualifiers, after similar breakthrough top-eight finishes in the Western Regional (sixth, 21:26) and Pac-10 Championships (eighth, 21:03). Although she ran more than a minute slower on the Indiana State course in Pre-Nationals in October (53rd, 21:35), still gained confidence for her even split effort (10:47 each loop) despite feeling physically off. Also led Ducks in her season opener, the Roy Griak Invite (18th, 21:41). Pac-10 Cross Country honorable mention. 2001-02: Pac-10 Scorer (Steeple). Matured into leader of distance corps with points in Pac-10 debut in steeplechase (fifth, 10:56.26). Earlier in season, lowered school steeple record with Washington Dual win (10:42.02) – just missing NCAA provisional mark (10:40.00) after tentative early pace. A month later, was only a second slower in Oregon Twilight in May (12th, 10:43.04). In flat 3,000, won outdoor opener in Montana-Weber State Triangular with team’s season best (9:49.94). Also earned Pac-10 invite in 1,500 and led squad in season’s end with season best from Mt. SAC Relays (second, 4:26.98), with another runner-up finish in Nebraska Quad (4:30.09). Ranked second on unit in 800 with season debut in Arizona State Invite (third, 2:11.85). Indoors, led Ducks in 3,000 in her only race of the season in the Washington Invitational (second, 10:07.90). Pac-10 All-Academic honorable mention in track. In cross country, competed in five meets and led squad in four of them – Pac-10 Champs (35th, 22:53), and Willamette (seventh, 17:36), Roy Griak (99th, 22:33) and Furman Invites (75th, 22:45). Although slowed by illness, still scored for squad in its fifth spot in NCAA Western Regional Champs (97th, 24:26).
2000-01: Redshirted track season, but still competed unattached locally in several meets. Finished 11th in first-ever steeplechase in Oregon Invitational (11:20.51). Just missed personal best in the 1,500 with season finale in the Oregon Twilight (seventh, 4:36.59). Also redshirted indoors. In cross country, ran top seven for Ducks in five races, ranking sixth for team in first NCAA Championships appearance (220th, 23:20.2), and Willamette Invite (19th, 18:32). Also made championship appearances in NCAA Western Regional (93rd, 22:51) and Pac-10 meets (44th, 22:44).
1999-2000: Competing for the University of Colorado, ranked first on squad indoors in 800 with Big 12 meet PR (10th, 2:13.55) and sixth outdoors in 1,500 (4:35.61). Outdoors, ran 800 leg on winning DMR in Hayward Relays (11:18.74). At cross country season's end, ranked as eighth harrier and first alternate for the Buffs who finished eighth in the NCAA Championships.
1998-99: Was team's fastest in indoor 600 and took 10th in Big 12 finale (1:36.86). Outdoors ranked second on squad in 400 hurdles (14th, 1:03.36). Did not run cross country.
